With extensive experience running a Mecklenburg County-based PR agency, Nell Parker is currently a community volunteer active with her Methodist church and local get-out-the-vote efforts. A master gardener who excels at home improvements, she also provides Mecklenburg County parents with advice on the college applications and admissions process, as well as tips on raising preschool children. Nell Parker serves on the board of the Johnston YMCA.
Ms. Parker earned her marketing and PR degree at the University of Georgia, completing a BA in journalism and serving as the head of the judiciary and marketing committees and an officer with the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). She joined the fast-paced Atlanta PR firm Cohn & Wolfe as an account executive and worked on wide ranging corporate accounts, from Piedmont Hospital to the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.
As head of McMullen-Parker Public Relations in Charlotte, Ms. Parker primary engaged with Shearson Lehman Brothers and The Home Depot. She was involved in introducing the latter retailer to the North Carolina market through Home Depot Expo and Home Depot Crossroads stores. She next directed marketing communications at Transamerica Life Co. An avid traveler and reader, she is one of the founders of a book club still going strong in its 28th year.
